A Guide to Moshi

Be aware that assault and petty thievery are commonplace and please take the necessary precautions to stay safe and especially after dark. This information is not meant to frighten you, only to remind you that Moshi, like other towns has its share of criminal activity.

Talking Politics

Generally, don’t talk about the political situation in the country with people you don’t know. This can get you into trouble and jeopardize the program. Avoid taking pictures of soldiers, public buildings or important or key infrastructures like bridges, etc If necessary ask the advice or permission.

Traveling in Tanzania

We encourage you to utilize this opportunity and travel in Tanzania to enjoy the vastness of the country’s natural endowments in terms of National Parks, Game Reserves, reputable physical features like Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain on the continent, Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika, both formed from natural earth shifts during the formation of the Great Rift Valley, and not to forget Zanzibar, the spice Island. For large trips like these, cash credit cards numbers are needed.

Restaurants and Night Life

Moshi has a pretty good nightlife and some nice restaurants. Feel free to explore this town, but please follow some basic safety precautions
It is much safer to stay in large groups. Do not walk at night – take tax(In town taxi is about 3,000 to 5,000Tsh .From Moshi town to the Home base a Daladala cost 400Tsh. Don’t carry any bags or money that you can’t afford to loose.

If you want to go out for dinner or get a drink in the evening, there are several hotels options in town that will be exposed to you to get started. Prices change quickly here so excuse any vague references to costs. The price of soda is around Tshs. 700 to 1000. The nicer the place, the higher the prices, new restaurants are opening all the time. Feel free to explore them.
